Kananaskis Guest RanchSince 1923 the Kananaskis Guest Ranch has hosted group Western Barbecues, Rodeos, Wedding Ceremonies and Receptions, Corporate Get-Aways and Retreat style Conferences. Located at the Entrance to the Canadian Rockies a more dramatic and beautiful locale for a Ranch is unimaginable. Banff’s Brewster Family homesteaded here in the late 1800’s where the Bow River flows east from steep canyon walls and Yamnuska Mountain or the ‘Sleeping Indian’ looms to the North. Guests at the Ranch, which operates June to September, are offered a multitude of adventure activities. As in centuries past horseback riding along the steep gorges of the Bow River, or multi-day horse trips to backcountry log cabins along the old horse drive trail, are still the tradition. In addition to horse activities the Ranch offers its own nine hole golf course, river rafting on the Kananaskis River, group voyageur canoe trips, plus access to hiking and fishing along Alberta’s Bow River. A highlight of any group stay at the Ranch is a Western Barbecue in the ‘Donut’ tent so named for the large hole in the middle of the wooden structure which allows the smoke to escape from the large open bonfire. Designed by Claude Brewster, this tent accommodates large and small groups for the famed Brewster ‘Hip’ of Beef Barbecues. For that added western flare live country music, gunfighter shows, line dancing, native dance troupes and even hour long Rodeos can be added to any entertainment package. The Brewster’s specialize in hosting special events and can accommodate various menu requests. The rustic cabin and chalet accommodations feature antique furnishing, cedar interiors and full baths. There are thirty accommodation units on the Ranch featuring large two bedroom units and one bedroom cabins with sitting rooms. An indoor ceramic whirlpool, scenic licensed dining room overlooking the Bow, and cocktail lounge with historic field stone fireplace add to the Ranch’s rustic charm. Guests at the Ranch can also arrange horseback riding at the family’s Brewster Lake Louise Stables. Famed tea house rides go daily to Plain of Six Glaciers and Lake Agnes. Descriptive Information on all the rides available at Lake Louise can be viewed at www.brewsteradventures.com. All- Inclusive packages described in our ‘on-line brochures’ can be requested by email. Located only 45 minutes from Calgary, and 30 minutes to Banff, the Ranch is easy to find, just off the Trans-Canada Highway.
