The Bar U Ranch National Historic Site of Canada
Bar U Ranch National Historic Site
Authentic western culture at your doorstep. One of the first and most enduring of the large corporate ranches established in the 1880’s, the Bar U was chosen by Parks Canada to commemorate the history of the ranching industry in Canada.
You can follow the story of the Bar U through seven decades of change from 1882 to 1950. Explore the ranch headquarters and visit the many historic buildings and learn about the people who made the Bar U one of the most famous ranches in its time. Immerse yourself in stories of ranching pioneers...fortunes made and lost, cattle-killing winters and massive roundups.
Today, we welcome visitors from around the world to the Bar U Ranch NHS- a key location on the Cowboy Trail - to experience the authentic presentation of ranching history as you ride the wagon pulled by the Bar U Percherons, try your hand a roping, or enjoy a cup of cowboy coffee at Roundup Camp. Come out for our many Special Events hosted throughout the summer.
The Bar U Cafe welcomes you with the aroma of fresh baked goods. The menu offers homemade ranch meals such as cow camp stew, homemade soup and biscuits and a great selection of burgers.

The Bar U Gift Shop stocks various items by local artists and crafts people. Quality items include, sewing, western gifts, jewellery, woodwork, handmade soap, candles and Friends of the Bar U promotional items. The Bar U Gift Shop is operated by the Friends of the Bar U - Phone #: 403-395-3330 - Friends website: www.friendsofthebaru.com
