Turner Valley Gas Plant National and Provincial Historic Site Experience a time when the light of the flares turned night into day in the foothills of the famous Turner Valley Oilfield. When Dingman No. 1 oil well blew in, Alberta’s oil and gas industry was born. It was the beginning of ranchers and oilmen sharing the magnificent foothills of southern Alberta. During World War II this was the largest producing gas field in the British Commonwealth. Through photos, model derricks, videos and tours, visitors travel back in time to the exciting days of gushers and wooden derricks. There will be no plant tours this year.
