Hiking to the Ice Caves in the Elbow Valley

Bragg Creek is the jumping off point for exploring the upper Elbow River valley in Kananaskis Country. Head southwest from the townsite on Hwy 66 to see Elbow Falls and enjoy the foothills and mountain scenery. There are a number of great hikes that can be adopted into mountain scrambles and ridge walks. Hundreds of kilometres of trails await to challenge the hiker, mountain biker, rider, and cross-country skier. From a gentle meander through the forest to a gruelling ridge-top scramble, the Elbow Valley trails connect with the Sheep, Sibbald, and Kananaskis Valleys, offering something for everyone. Check on hiking, biking and equestrian trails at the information centre.

Northwest of town is the x-country ski area that has numerous trackset loops and south of town is the Mclean Creek offroad vehicle area. Hwy 762 is another option heading south from Bragg Creek that heads down to Millarville on the way to Turner Valley. It’s a great route that winds through the foothills before coming out on the Three Point Creek road.

To enhance your enjoyment of the scenery and to ensure it’s just as beautiful the next time you visit, please keep the following in mind:

Stay on trails; do not take shortcuts on switchbacks. Keep pets on a leash at all times. Do not pick flowers or remove natural objects. Pack out what you pack in, as well as any additional litter you may find. Do not feed any wild animals. Use constructed firepits or cook on your portable stove when these facilities are not provided.
